Arrived safely in Germany. Was excited about not suffering from jet-lag. Bonn seems to be a nice city, and I love the dorm style housing thy have for us here – allows for being very social with the other students. Breakfasts are the same, yet different here. Cereal or eggs are still an option, but they seem to like bread with a variety of toppings…and they love Nutella here. So far the trip has just been cultural and historical, not veterinary stuff yet. Got to enjoy a beautiful monastery and even attended mass. It was in a combination of German and Latin. I’m glad we now have services in our own languages, you get so much more out the service, but it was an enjoyable event none-the-less. Then got to visit castles (one still intact, the other in ruins). I would have been disappointed if I came all the way to Europe and never got to see a castle. Learned about some of the Mayfest traditions and discussed the differences in the American landscape with that of Germany’s with our tour guide from the AIB.
Today we visited an organic farm within the city. They grow plants and raise animals…we were defiantly more excited about the animals. The goslings were adorable and they don’t dock the tails on lambs. Listened to a lecture on bees and got to make and drink homemade apple juice. In the afternoon we had a lecture on homeopathy…“like treats like.” It’s an interesting concept, but just doesn’t make sense intuitively. My summary of the wholw lecture is “magic energy.” I would give it a lot more credit if they would test it under scientific trials. So while I would not deny it to a client who asked for it, I don’t see myself ever offering it as an option. Finished off the day with my first bratwurst in Germany.
