It’s been a whirlwind adventure so far! The first few days were tiring due to jetlag and minimal sleep for a few days. Once I got a goodnights sleep I felt a lot better and started to enjoy the trip more. It’s been very interesting so far. Saturday was basically an introduction to the program and a little tour around Bonn to help get us aquainted with the area, dinner, and bed.
On Sunday we headed to Eifel and attended church at the monastery (Maria Laach). I am not catholic, but I found the service very interesting. Hearing the service in German was fascinating. After a while I was able to pick up what certain words were in the service. The castle (Schloss Bürresheim) was nice- it was a good tour. Traveling to the city of Monreal was my favorite part of the day. Hiking up to the castle ruins was a lot of fun- making our own trail and all! The view from the top was amazing, even despite the rain.
Today we traveled outside of Bonn to the “Gut Ostler” organic farm. It was a fun day- more rain. The animals were definitely my favorite part- especially the baby gosling! Too cute J It was interesting to hear the farm managers perspective on farming and sustainable living. The afternoon lecture wasn’t a favorite so far (on homeopathy). It was interesting to hear about, but I don’t know if I believe it or not. The evening tour was good. I enjoyed that Dr. Zäck showed us the Roman baths underground. It was something we probably wouldn’t have found on our own.
