Had a wonderful time in Paris (and Amsterdam) this weekend. I am going to have to go back to Paris someday. We are now in The Netherlands, where we will finish out our trip (other than spending one last night in Berlin and anything we do individually before our flights).
Visited the Burger Zoo in Arnhem yesterday. The tour we were given was of the tropical rainforest and the aquarium. The rainforest was really neat because they left a lot of the trails unpaved, so it kind of felt like you were actually walking through the jungle. Out tour guide did a great job of pointing out species of animals and plants. Then we went to a national park to go to the museum, which turned out to be a modern art museum, not a nature museum…it was interesting to say the least… But the bike ride through the park to get there was a lot of fun, because we were on the bike trail, so we could ride as fast as we wanted since we could not get lost.
Now we are in Utrecht and staying with host students again. I am one of the few by myself (which is fine). The Netherlands is definitely different from Germany. The students speak English a lot better (and I seem to see a lot of English in other places too, like TV for example) (not that the German students have poor English skills) and the landscape here makes me feel at home. I feel very welcomed here and am looking forward to an enjoyable week.
