Italian train strike! 6-6-11
This weekend we were in Venice, and it was fabulous!!! We got to see a glass blowing demonstration, and we rode a gondola through the canals! We have really enjoyed eating the italian food, and gelatto while we walk through the streets and shops! We ate at Saint Mark's square the first night, and listened to the battling orchestras, it was one of the neatest things I have ever done! As we left Venice, things started to get interesting... we had a huge rainstorm hit at the train station, and the whole tunnel had water flowing through it! Then when our train pulled up, it was jammed full of people... turns out there was a regional train strike in Italy, and all of the night trains exept this one were not running, so everyone from 4 trains was jammed onto 1. There were 11 people in our 6 person car, it was a long night. We switched trains in Dusseldorf, but we still didn't get any sleep because of all of the noisy people on the early morning train. Oh, and we passed through Austria, which the eurail person told us we would not because it was not on our pass. Anyway 23 euro and 14 hours later, we have made it to the hotel in Arnhem... tired, a little wet, and ready to sleep!
