My blistered foot is still trying to recover from our mudwalk on Thursday. It would've been a lot more fun if we'd been warned beforehand about what exactly to expect and to wear. Instead, we showed up in Peiterberun to meet our guide who shook his head at our attire as he stood 7'1" tall and wearing shorts up to his upper thigh and high-top shoes. Apparantly we should've know. oh well, i had to make the most of the old tennis shoes i'd brought to throw away afterwards. My right shoe kept on getting sucked off by the mud and i developed a nasty blister. It's gone through several stages of puss and blood and still hasn't managed to heal. yikes. gross. anyway, we didn't see much. i think our guide was worried the tide was going to come back soon because he really rushed us. a few crabs were the most exciting thing we saw.
At least we got to get a look at the habitat the harbor seals and grey seals live in. We visited the seal rehabilitation and research center lenie t'hart. IT WAS MY FAVORITE. it really made me want to do some more conservation biology work like I did in undergraduate. i mean, who doesn't love seals? they are freakin adorable with their huge eyes and wobbling on land. We were able to watch the video for the center and the vet for the center and the marine biologist gave us a lecture and explained to us the work they do. it really is amazing. then we got to watch baby premature seals being fed!
Everyone else in the program went to Amsterdam this weekend so we dropped them off at the groningen train station and jennifer and i went back to bonn to wake up the next morning and catch our 7am flight out of CGN to Prague!
we made it here in one piece (even though our plan was tiny and from the 1970's) and we've pretty much explored all of Prague's main tourist sites before our hostel let us check into our room. Saw the Prague castle, watched a classical music concert, walked over Charles Bridge, went to the old town square and saw the astronomical clock and ate some Czech food. Tonight we''ll go to a jazz bar (apparantly a really popular thing here)
