So my brain has finally grown back after finals thanks to many many hours of non-school interrupted sleep. It's hard to believe we've made it through our first year of vet school. I must say, it did fly by although at the time it seemed rather was painful. But we're done!
Anyway, we leave for Germany in about a day and a half and I'm so excited. I'm kind of viewing this as my opportunity to study abroad. I graduated from undergrad in 3 years so I didn't have time to properly study abroad. That's one of the big reasons I wanted to go on this trip. That and I figured I won't have many opportunities to just get up and go somewhere for fun. While I've traveled a lot over the years, I've never been to Europe. I'm so excited about getting to travel all over the place. Little bit of time in Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Czech. Doesn't get much better than that. I'm really looking forward to spending time at TiHo, the German vet school. I think it will be really interesting to see how things at international vet schools compare to what we do. I'm also looking forward to going to Bergen Belsen. I think it's a really important experience for any person but particularly for Jewish people. I've heard from friends and family that it's a really intense experience and I'm not really sure what to expect but I know it will be pretty powerful. I'm glad that I'm going with friends and other people that I think are going to be really understanding and supportive.
I finally got everything together for my weekend trips too. It got put off a lot longer than it probably should have because of school stuff but I got it all taken care of this week. I'm still not sure what I'm doing when I get to these places but I'd really be happy just kind of wandering around so I'm not worried. The first weekend I'm going with Christine to Prague. I'm really excited about this. I've heard that Prague is amazing and beautiful. I've gotten some pretty interesting sounding recommendations from people about things to do there. The second weekend, I'm going to Geneva with Melissa. This should be really great. I've always heard how beautiful Switzerland is. And from what I've gathered, Geneva is pretty close to the border with France and is settled along Lake Geneva between two mountain ranges, the Alps and some other one I can't remember. Sounds pretty amazing to me. I'm hoping we'll get a chance to go see the UN and WHO. I feel like it would be wrong to go to Geneva and not at least see the buildings. I'm pretty excited about some genuine Swiss chocolate too.
Overall, I'm not quite sure what to expect out of these few weeks but I'm sure I'm going to have so much fun and learn a lot. I can't ask for much more than that. Yay Germany!!!
