When I began this blog three years ago, my intent was to provide a forum for my study abroad students from the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine to share their international experiences with each other, their fellow students at A&M, and the rest of the Web. I had set up a similar blog for my undergraduate study abroad students way back in 2005 and have been pleased with the thoughtful and interesting things they have written about their program experiences in Europe over the years.
In 2007, I initiated a program for students from German veterinary schools to come and spend two weeks with us here in College Station, see how our students live and learn and how we are training the next generation of veterinarians. Thus far, students from the schools in Berlin and Hannover have participated in this program and it finally occurred to me, after this year's program, that our group weblog was also a suitable place for their comments on their study abroad experiences with us.
I have therefore asked the students from the 2010 program (all from the Tierärztliche Hochschule Hannover) to send me a short statement summarizing their experience with us this past March. On my request, their contributions are in German (although they all possessed excellent English language skills) and our blog is now bilingual!
My future plans include enlarging the College Station program to include veterinary students from other countries and am hoping to have some Italian, Dutch and French students here on campus over the next few years.
