Sad, Sad Goodbyes…Back to America

I seriously cannot believe a month has already come and gone. I honestly say, without a shadow of a doubt, that the past month has been one of the best experiences of my entire life. I learned so much about my profession, history, and myself. Joy and I were a little intimidated coming to a foreign country with students we had never met, but I could NOT be more thankful for the friendships that we made. The trip would not have been the same without such amazing friends (and Nils and Johanna, of course). Nils certainly has a gift for what he does. Even though we gave him a hard time, he truly made the trip, and none of us would have been able to get through it all without his guidance.

As I’m writing this, I was trying to decide on my favorite part of the trip, and I really can’t choose. Everything was my favorite. Every trip, every lecture, every experience had a little something about it that added to my overall experience. I am so thankful and blessed for the program and what it has added to my future career as a veterinarian. Without even having a lot of “hands on” veterinary medicine work, I truly believe that I came out a stronger, more capable veterinary student. Everything about the program was beneficial to my career, and I am more thankful now for my education and work experience than I have ever been.

Busum was my favorite city of “veterinary activities”. The necropsy dissection, Ursula’s lecture on research, the seal hunter dinner, the seal park, the mud flat walk…were all incredible experiences. Not only these, but also the time we were able to spend as a group. I really do think Busum should be the last city to visit. It was just too perfect! J

Berlin was my favorite city in terms of history. The history of Germany is fascinating to me, and I really enjoyed learning about it. I could seriously spend weeks in Berlin and hope to do so very soon!

Leipzig was my favorite host experience. My host was truly wonderful, and I really enjoyed getting to know her and her friends.

Copenhagen was wonderful for the clinical experience. The doctors there were so accommodating and helpful. Even if it was just two days, I will ever be grateful for Dr. Jacob and his eagerness to teach me about veterinary dentistry. I found my experience incredibly fascinating and am excited for what the future has in store for me.

Basal was my favorite city tour. I will definitely be visiting Switzerland again in the future. The city was so clean and beautiful. The tour guide was wonderful to our group and really started the trip off right.
