Busum/Berlin

Berlin was my absolute favorite city so far. I enjoyed the Leibniz Zoo Institute specifically. Seeing how a CT scanner actually works was very interesting. I enjoyed listening to their current research projects and being able to apply what I know. It was fascinating to me to discuss the up and coming uses of CT scanners. I had no idea how much information CT scans can actually provide for the research and development of Veterinary Medicine. Additionally, Multimar Wattforum was definitely a good introduction to our time in Busum. I enjoyed the guide and the information he gave us. I felt that without it, I wouldn’t have been able to learn, remember, and apply the knowledge of the National Park as I did in Busum.

The city tour was incredibly interesting. It really helped me to better understand the history, past suffering, and incredible development of Germany. The city (and country) seems to have come so far from where they once were in World War II. The city has absolutely flourished and is something for the German people to be proud of. I was fascinated by the amount of history that occurred in Berlin.

Busum was insanely amazing. I so incredibly enjoyed the necropsy dissection (apparently, because one adverb was not enough to describe how much I actually enjoyed it). I feel I learned so much during such a small amount of time. It was incredible to compare the anatomy of marine animals to that of a dog or a horse. It was definitely an interactive way to further my knowledge and practice what I already know. That should, without a doubt, continue to be a part of the program.

The mud flat walk was fun and a good way to experience such a vital ecosystem. It was interesting to see how much the mud flats impact the Germany economy and environment. I do think that in the future, a better introductory talk (to outside SEC schools) about how to prepare for the mud flat should be had before leaving the States. I would have liked to get “down and dirty” and really experience the mud flat and its organisms, but I didn’t have the proper clothing  (bathing suit, jacket, etc.) to do so. Having said that, I really did enjoy it.
