Clinics in Denmark :)

Clinic day 1- what a great experience! Not only did we get to see one day old kittens but I got more experience with a monkey!! A tamarin came in with patchy skin and severe pruritis so a skin scrape was done to look for mites- possibly scabies since dermatophytosis was ruled out. We could not find anything on the slides. We also got to assist with radiographs of pastern and fetlock joint on a horse. And watched nerve blocks and lameness exams. In the afternoon we looked at fecals from a herd of sheep and identified Truchuris eggs. Fecals were done because tapeworms were found. Ended the day with wellness exams and vaccinations on dogs. Also got to watch dentals done without intubation which was interesting. We learned a lot about the views of the veterinarians in Denmark about spay and neuter and breed restrictions. It was really interesting to me to hear that they do not push for neuter to reduce the risk of cancer, they are concerned more with the weight gain problems that neutering could cause which was interesting. It amazes me how many dogs we see here that are not neutered but don't have problems with stray animals. After our day in the clinic we spent the rest of the evening at a castle enjoying coffee and snacks with our Dr. Kurt's family and they cooked us a wonderful dinner. We felt so at home with them and really had a great experience.

Day 2 clinic- got to assist with adding foot prosthetics to foal to help with limp deformity. Also assisted with artificial insemination of mare. Watched spay and anal glad removal on a chihuahua. There wAs also a ruptured anal glad on Bermese and possible adenoma! Overall a great experience at the clinics. Had a great time at tivoli with our classmates and our hosts. Bonnie was terrified of roller coaster but she rode on it with me! So proud of her! We are now off to Vienna! So glad we got to have a couple of days in the clinics working with veterinarians and animals. I learned a lot!
